The enchanting imagery was done with a nod to the Japanese ukiyo-e prints of Ch`ok`osai Eish`o [1789-1817] who, with seductive style, brought to life the personality of his subjects. Translated as ?floating world?, ukiyo-e woodblock prints?a collaboration of artist, publisher, carver and printer?first drew upon the hedonistic pleasures found in the courtesan quarter of Edo [now Tokyo], later evolving into lyrical scenes of nature that influenced landscape painting throughout the world.
